SEAT Car Hire in Cuba
SEAT is an acronym for Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo, or in English Spanish Passenger Car Company.Initially, SEAT manufactured rebadged Fiat models which differed very little visually from the products of the Italian parent. The SEAT Panda (later restyled as SEAT Marbella) for example was based on the Fiat Panda. The SEAT 600, based on Fiat 600, was the first car for many Spanish families, and became a symbol of the Spanish Miracle.
The first car under the new SEAT logo without Fiat involvement appeared in 1982, and was called the SEAT Ronda. This was a restyled Fiat Ritmo, and sparked a lawsuit from Fiat against SEAT, as the former claimed the car was still too similar to the Ritmo. The then president of SEAT, Juan Miguel Antoñanzas, showed a Ronda to the press with all the parts different from the Fiat Ritmo painted in bright yellow, to highlight the differences. This ended the dispute. Rumour at the time had it that Fiat was angry because the Ronda restyling was in fact too close to their own planned restyling for the Fiat Ritmo, which they had to scrap.
After the withdrawal of Fiat in 1981, the Volkswagen Group subsidiary Audi AG signed a cooperation agreement with SEAT, becoming the major shareholder in 1986, and 100% owner of the company in 1990. During the mid 2000s, the ownership of the SEAT company was realigned, with Audi AG transferring ownership of SEAT to the top-tier holding company Volkswagen Group.

Pick up your car The provider will request following information, when you pick up your rental car:- Reservation number confirmed by Solways.
- Valid driver license for renter & each additional driver.
- Valid credit card. (in the case of REX car rental company)
- If you cancel the reservation 72 hours before your intended arrival date, we will refund you the total amount that you paid for your reservation, minus the amount of 15.00 Euros for administration fees.
- If you cancel the reservation within 72 hours or less of the date of arrival, we will refund you the total amount that you paid for the reservation, minus the amount of the first day of your intended rent for no-show charges.
- Refunds will be credited to your credit card within 72 hours after receiving your cancellation.
Payment Conditions Solways accepts online payment with the following Credit Cars (Visa, MasterCard).
All services for cash payment in Cuba such as insurance (CDW), parking, fuel, deposit of guaranty, and additional drive will be handled directly between you and the car rental company and will be priced in Convertible Pesos only.
Euros are acceptable currency in the following six tourist locations: Varadero, Jardines del Rey (Ciego de Avila province), Santa Lucia (Camaguey), Covarrubias in Las Tunas, the tourist area of Holguín, and Cayo Largo del Sur. The currency exchange service will be provided at the airports, hotels, banks and Exchange Houses (CADECA, short for Casa de Cambio).
If your are traveling with American Dollars you pay a tax of 10% to exchange pesos convertibles. Other currencies such as euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars, or Swiss francs could be exchange without tax, just the exchange rate available at the moment.
Fuel You will receive the car full of gasoline. All cars are using “super especial”. If the tank is not full when you return the vehicle, the car rental company will charge you the difference.
Additional driver All co-drivers have to be written in the contract with a valid driver license, passport number when the car is checked out. Otherwise, the CDW (insurance) will not cover for any damage made by the driver even though he/she have a valid driver license.
Rates for co-driver will be charged according each car rental company policy. Maximum of 2 co-drivers per contract will be accepted.
Extra equipment The car rental companies offer child seats. To guarantee that a child seat is available at the check out station, this has to be requested when the reservation is made.
One way fee The provider will charge one way fee if:
- REX
- The car is checked out on a different station less than 48 hours from check out time.
- The (customer without informing REX) car is returned on a different station than stated on the rental agreement.
- Drop off city has not any REX office.
- Drop off city is different from Pick up city, except if Drop off city is Havana
- Cubacar
- Drop off city is different from Pick up city
Insurance
Car rental companies offer insurance CDW (Collision Damage Waiver). CDW reduces the customers responsibility in accidents were the customer has not violated the legislations written on the rental agreement. It's mandatory and must be paid directly by client to the car rental company. Their rates will depend on each car rental company's policy
Driver license The renter has to present the car rental company a valid driver license. If the driver license from its original country is not written in Spanish or English, a international driver license have to be shown.
Airport fee All reservations confirmed at international airports will be charged with a supplement of 20.00 CUC, which will be paid upon signing the contract to rent a car.
Minimum age The provider request a minimum age for the renter for renting a car:
- REX
- 21 years old for Skoda Fabia, Audi A3, A4, A6, VW Sharan and others (Minimum 3 years of experience).
- 30 years old for the Audi A4 cabriolet & Audi TT.
- Cubacar
- 21 years old
- The customer has to return the car according to the agreed date, time and station.
- If the customer change any of the above it is necessary that the customer calls the car rental company and receive an approval of the changes.
- Furthermore the car has to be returned in the same conditions as when the car was rented. If not, the car rental company will charge the customer the self risk listed on the rental agreement.
